Civic/Religious
AHA Consulting Engineers' resume includes Museums, Art Galleries, Churches and the inter-related facilities. Projects include renovation of a turn-of-the-century Mill into Art Galleries and Performance Spaces, a new Family Life Center for a large Church Community, and an addition & expansion of a current Church including Daycare and Classrooms. Close temperature and humidity control as well as efficient introduction of outdoor air for large occupancies are key mechanical concerns. Noise control and lighting layout is of particular importance to enhance the experience of the occupant.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame
Springfield, Massachusetts
State of the art interactive Exhibit Hall, Movie Theater and Retail Spaces totaling 220,000 SF. The museum has a full size basketball court, offers hundreds of interactive exhibits, offers live clinics and shooting contests. The Main Exhibit Hall consists of a 100'high Sphere where supply air distribution and smoke exhaust was a challenge. Every dimension of HVAC and lighting design was employed including low voltage Exhibit specific lighting and noise control. The building was supported with a new boiler and chiller plant.
Blackshear Place Baptist Church
Flowery Branch, Georgia
This Baptist church was looking to add 75,000 SF of new construction including new lobby, expanded baptistery, expanded kitchen, a new pre-school building including adult education and administration, a new kids' theater, a college/singles area and common areas. Also included in the design were MEP upgrades for the renovation of 52,000 square feet of the existing building.

Mass MoCA
North Adams, Massachusetts
This 19th century factory was developed as a mill building in North Adams Massachusetts and had been left vacant for many years. This building was falling apart and many of the floor were rotting and unusable. AHA were part of the design and renovation team to turn this facility into Museums, Art Galleries, Performing Arts, Offices, Retail and food service. The team worked diligently to preserve as much of the Mill buildings as possible. One of the biggest challenges was to incorporate all new HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing systems in to the facility without taking away from the historic nature of the building. Through close coordination the owner and the architectural design team AHA found ways to:
- Distribute central chilled water throughout the facility,
- Convert leaky red brick structures into air tight humidity controlled art galleries,
- Convert multi-story buildings into single story large performing arts center with close noise control,
- Develop class A office spaces with exposed ceiling structure, and
- Incorporate all necessary facilities such as cafeteria, bathroom facilities, retail and assembly areas.
A quick tour through the Mass MoCA website will show the results of this project www.massmoca.org.
