Data Centers/Mission Critical

Our team has been designing and consulting on high efficiency, high performance, high density and high reliability facilities all over the US as well as in Malaysia, Europe, Australia and Canada. We know what the expectations of the industry are, and we can coach the end user what other end users are employing successfully.

Ebay Modular Data Center

Phoenix, Arizona

This high density data center will utilize 8,000 square feet raised-floor space on the first floor and accommodate up to 12 server-filled containers on the roof. The team's concept included "hot water cooling" to support the requirement for year-round use of fresh air cooling (free cooling), despite the temperatures in Phoenix. The team was among 20 entrants in an open RFP, intended to prompt innovation in data center design using modular data centers, which are typically built in a factory and assembled on-site, resulting in a faster and cheaper construction process.

The eBay project calls for a combination of approaches to cooling and reliability, using both air cooling and liquid cooling in different parts of the facility. The project is scheduled to be completed by Fall 2011.

Sun Microsystems

Burlington, Massachusetts

Construction of a new corporate campus with central chilled water and hot water plants. All buildings were connected by a common winter garden. Space was 80% office and 20% high-tech computer labs. Project also included auditorium and training rooms.

Additional design was done when there was a consolidation of many lab components on the multi building campus into one existing 20,000 SF server room and creating three new high density high efficiency labs. The location of the racks in the existing server room required integration and understanding of the existing systems and distribution. Zero down time was required and creative design implemention was employed. The project required an additional 1 MW of electrical systems. Cooling and power to the new locations was required.

Telecom Data Center Client

Sydney, Australia

Integration of a 3.6 MW data center into the ninth floor of a 15 story telephone exchange building. 25 KW racks were positioned onto the 5000 SF data center floor space. The existing main power systems and cooling systems serving the building had to be connected to the floor level and main plant level. Air flow and power flow analysis were necessary.
